HDR Video on the iPhone

It’s been a while, and we’ve been silent. But for good reason.

We have made some headway with HDR video…but mostly Alaric has been busy bringing HDR video to the iPhone. While it’s not quite what two pro cameras and a beam splitter can produce, it’s nothing less than amazing for a mobile device.

It’s called Flare, and it’s available on the App Store today: getflare.com

id like to know how to use it

    CHANGING EFFECTS:
You can use the switch or simply drag the camera back open to reveal the internals. You can actually move the camera back all the way open if you like, revealing goodies inside (more to come soon). When open, you can swipe the chips to change effects, or tap them to turn them off (and read about what each effect does). Use the slider to adjust the effect strength. The HDR effects work best in good light. Like an HDR photo, people may look strange, but landscapes will really shine. I recommend focusing on the second and third effects, HDR-850 and SVM-910.

    FOCUS/EXPOSURE/WHITE-BALANCE:
Tap once to focus/expose like you do w/ the usual camera app. Drag the white box that shows up to separate focus
/exp. The one with four corners is focus, and the X looking one is eXposure. Tap either box to lock it.

    SHARING:
When viewing a video, you can share it to many places, including your Camera Roll. Note that Flare uploads full-resolution videos, so it may take some time to upload.I’m actively working on an update. Any sugges tions you may have are welcome. I hope you enjoy the app.

    EXTRAS:
You can pinch to zoom in on the live video, just like you would with the Photos app. Nice because the standard iPhone video camera doesn’t allow zooming.

Certainly. And if I had an evil twin who was an Android dev, he’d do it ;)

Seriously, though, if Flare takes off, I’ll definitely look into creating an Android version. I focused on iOS because that’s what I use and what I know.-Alaric

Hi I Just downloaded the app but am now stuck on the share page – can’t get out of it. And evey time I close and reopen the app it’s still on that page. The “done’ Button doesnt work. Any clues? I don’t even know how to delete the App

Haven’t seen this before. The best solution would be to head to your home screen, then double tap the home button to show your “open” apps. Press and hold Flare, then tap the delete button when it appears.
